Earlier this week we told you the story about Germantown head coach Phil Datka, who is retiring at the end of this season after 40-plus years as the head coach of the Warhawks.

Many felt that Datka would get his "gold watch" Saturday when his 6-4 squad faced Division 1 top-seed Homestead, which entered the post-season having played in three of the last four state championship games...winning two of them.

Hollywood...get out the script paper, rumors of Datka's retirement are a bit premature as his Warhawks, who lost to Homestead 21-20 in Week 9 of the regular season, upset the heavily favored Highlands 17-10 Saturday. Germantown, which is now 7-4, advances to next week's state quarterfinals against Milwaukee Marquette.

Meanwhile Arrowhead, which faced Homestead in the three state title games between 2006 and 2008, was also ousted Saturday. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Waukesha West used a solid running game to advance to the Division 1 state quarterfinals with a 14-10 victory.
