Wisconsin High School Football Playoff Brackets Finally Set

by Jeff Fisher
Wisconsin High School Football Huddle

It took a few extra days and judge, but the field is now set for the 2011 Wisconsin high school football playoffs.

A Milwaukee County Court Judge has ruled that Shorewood-Messmer is eligible for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association playoffs that begin later this week.

Originally the WIAA ruled that the 4-4 Greyhounds weren't eligible because it was in its fourth-and-final year of a playoff ban on teams that drop out of conferences.  Shorewood-Messmer left the Woodland Conference in 2007, but joined the Midwest Classic Conference this season.

The court victory puts the Greyhounds into the Division 1 playoff bracket with a first-round game against Milwaukee Riverside.

Wisconsin Allows High School Football Team to Reduce Regular Season Games Starting in 2012

by Jeff Fisher
Wisconsin High School Football Huddle

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association has voted reduce the regular season in 2012 from nine games to eight.

The change, which is only for the 2012 season, was made after coaches and school officials raised concerns that the first day of practice would be August 1st.  The early starting date was caused by a vote by the WIAA last year that moved the start of the season up by one week to avoid a scheduling crunch at playoff time that caused teams to play three games in 10 days.

The WIAA is asking that the Wisconsin Coaches Association come-up with other scheduling ideas beyond the 2012 season.  Under the eight game schedule, teams that do not qualify for the playoffs would have the option of  scheduling a ninth game.

Practice for the 2012 season will now begin on August 6th.

The Post-Crescent reports that one big question is whether Jorgensen will stay-on as an assistant?

Kimberly's Jorgensen Resigns

by Jeff Fisher
Wisconsin High School Football Huddle

Steve Jorgensen has stepped-down as the head coach of  Kimberly Papermakers.

After a slow start...9-10 in his first two years...Jorgensen was one of the best head coaches in the state from 2006 through last year, amassing a 59-5 record with two state championships.

Ricardo Arguello of the Post-Crescent reports that even though Jorgensen has resigned, he will still be close to the program next season because his son Matthew will be a senior on the team.
